May 15, 1922 Letter to Joe Jackson from His Lawyer

May 15, 1922 Letter to Joe Jackson from His Lawyer

Two-page typed letter to Shoeless Joe regards the legal proceedings that resulted from the throwing of the 1919 World Series. One can imagine the illiterate Jackson listening intently as his wife read him this letter. Reads in part, "...It is my opinion that you have an excellent case against the Club. The contract that you signed in 1920 expires at the end of the baseball season in 1922. I presume that the contract contained the 10 day clause and I have been informed that they promised you they would strike out the 10 day clause on same the same as they did with Buck Weaver..." Original mailing folds with very minimal tearing at these folds.
