Mays, Mantle, DiMaggio & Snider Signed Oversized Photograph (PSA)

Mays, Mantle, DiMaggio & Snider Signed Oversized Photograph (PSA)

Presented is an oversized photograph that includes the autographed photos of four of the greatest center fielders in baseball history. When Terry Cashman sang of "Willie, Mickey and the Duke" in his recording of "Talkin' Baseball," he was paying homage to the marvelous trio of center fielders on the three New York City teams of the 1950s: the New York Giants' Willie Mays, the New York Yankees' Mickey Mantle, and the Brooklyn Dodgers' Duke Snider. Add the Yankees' Joe DiMaggio, himself immortalized in Simon and Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson" as the musical duo asked, "Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio?" and the quartet of New York City Hall of Fame center fielders displayed in the photograph is complete. The background of the photo is the center field area of Brooklyn's Ebbets Field. Superimposed in front of the Ebbets Field outfield fence are four individual photos of the great outfielders, and each photo has been signed by the appropriate star. Mays earned renown as the center fielder for the New York Giants (1951-57) who was the perfect athlete to patrol the vast expanses at the Polo Grounds. He continued his career when the Giants moved to San Francisco for the 1958 season and finished his playing career with the New York Mets in 1972-73. For a time during his mid-career, Mays, who finished with 660 home runs, was considered a threat to break Babe Ruth's then lifetime record of 714 home runs. Mantle had great speed as a young player, and he used that speed on defense to give him fine outfield range. His 536 homers are the most by any switch-hitter in history. DiMaggio was such a great center fielder that some players swear that they never saw him make a defensive mistake, and who can forget his all-time consecutive game hitting streak of 56 games in 1941? Snider covered center field for the Brooklyn Dodgers and used what Brooklyn baseball executive Branch Rickey termed "steel springs" in his legs to leap and rob many a home run near center field fences. From 1953-57, Snider hit 40 or more home runs each season for Brooklyn. The sepia photo measures approx. 14.25x19.5", matted to approx. 20x25.5". Each player has used a blue marker to neatly sign his photo. The photograph comes with a PSA LOA. The signed images of these iconic New York City center fielders can become any collection's center of attention.
