Mel Ott Signed Album Page (PSA)
Mel Ott was a New York Giants' player from 1926-47. He was also the Giants' manager from 1942-48, all but '48 as a player manager. Presented is a Mel Ott autograph cut from an album page. Right fielder Ott was not a large man, standing 5'9" and weighing 170 lbs., but he generated great power, as he batted left-handed and used a large kick with his right foot to help provide impetus. He was an All-Star for 11 consecutive seasons, and he was the first National League player to reach 500 home runs, finishing his career with 511 round trippers. Ott was a key player on the 1933 Giants' World Champions. Mel was very popular with fans, and of course he was asked for many autographs. He once joked about how lucky he was to have a first and last name totaling only six combined letters, thus making autograph signing relatively easy compared to players with longer names: "Every time I sign an autograph, and there must have been thousands, I thank my luck that I wasn't born Coveleski, or Wambsganss or Peckinpaugh." The Ott autograph is on a piece of an album page cut to an approx. size of 2.25" x 4.25". The autograph is large and clearly written, using a pen with blue ink. In the lower left corner of the cut, in blue ink from a ballpoint pen, an unknown hand has printed "Mel Ott." The autograph cut has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified as "AUTHENTIC AUTO."
