Mel Ott Signed Photograph (PSA)

Mel Ott Signed Photograph (PSA)

Mel Ott was sent to a New York Giants' tryout in the Polo Grounds in New York City when the youngster was only 16. After seeing just one Ott workout, Hall of fame Giants' manager John McGraw said, "This kid is remarkable. This lad is going to be one of the greatest lefthand hitters the National League has seen." McGraw was right. Ott was remarkable. Even though Ott, as McGraw said, "... lifts his right foot off the ground like he's going to kick a dog." Presented is a 5x6.5" signed photo of the slugging right-fielder. McGraw kept Ott with the Giants for two seasons so that a minor league manager wouldn't ruin him. Then Ott started playing regularly in 1928. He stayed with the Giants as a player through 1946, part of that time as a player-manager, and in total he managed the Giants for seven seasons. Ott had an unusually high kick with his right leg, but he kept his balance and his eyes on the ball. Only 5'9" and 170 lbs., he was the first National Leaguer to hit over 500 home runs, and he finished his career with 511 round-trippers. He batted a career .304 and was a 12-time All-Star and a part of the 1933 Giants World Champions. He was an extremely popular player, and a long-time favorite of New York Giants fans. The photo captures the Ott swing drawback prior to launching his swing. Notice Ott's right leg drawn high. Ott neatly signed the photo in ink. The photo is signed on the back by an unidentified person. The autographed photo has been encapsulated and PSA/DNA certified as AUTHENTIC AUTO.
