Compelling 4 x 6" photo by famous '30s sports photographer George Burke displays the rarely-seen softer side of Mickey Cohrane, anchor of the Philadelphia A's championship teams of 1929-31 and 2 Detroit Tiger pennants and a title in 1935. Cochrane, whose .320 career average is tops of any big league catcher, was known as "Black Mike" for his foul temper, especially after losses. Thus, Burke's slightly sepia-toned shot of him wiith an easy smile while squatting in a catcher's pose in his Tiger uniform, is a pip made more valuable by the HOFers' bold grade-9 signature in black ink under "To Mick Grasso, best wishes" Photo has a stamped "Geo.
