You feel Mantle’s pain in this original Oct. 10, 1957 wire photo of him on his locker room stool during the World Series sorting through fan mail including a big box on his lap and pointing to the injured right shoulder that led him to bench himself for a game in Milwaukee. As always with Mantle, this was just one hurt – there’s also a bandage around his left leg due to shin splints. Taken by photographer Sam Schulman for International News Photos (stamping on back).
