Mickey Mantle "MVP '56 '57 '62" Signed 1963 Advertisement (JSA)
Presented is a 1963 Mickey Mantle signed and inscribed magazine advertisement for the National Youth Sales Club (USA). The advertisement urged youths to mail the detachable business reply card in order to receive, "on credit," 12 boxes of assorted greeting cards, to be sold at $1.25 a box. Also sent to the youths who replied was a catalog of prizes they could win depending on the number of boxes sold. The advertisement measures approx. 10x13.25". Mantle has signed the blank space on the top of the detachable business reply card, using blue ink from a ballpoint pen. Hall of Famer Mantle also inscribed the aforementioned card with "MVP '56, '57, and '62," also in blue ink from a ballpoint pen. Both the Mantle signature and the inscription demonstrate his model penmanship. This advertisement was initially published when Mantle was still in his peak years, having just won the AL MVP the year before as he led the Yankees to a World Series triumph over the San Francisco Giants and led the AL in OBP (.486), SLP (.605) and OPS (1.091), plus won a Gold Glove Award. The Mantle signature was most likely signed later, probably in the 1980s or 1990s. The offering comes with a JSA Letter of Authenticity that certifies both the Mantle signature and his inscription. The Mantle autograph is 9/10.
