Mickey Mantle "No. 7" Signed & Inscribed Glove (PSA)
"That boy hits baseballs over buildings. He runs as fast as Ty Cobb," was what New York Yankees manager Casey Stengel exclaimed upon getting his first extended look at Mickey Mantle in spring training in 1951. Although Mantle lost his great speed as a result of a series of injuries, he retained his great power for most of his career, 18 seasons, all with the New York Yankees. Presented is a Mickey Mantle signed and inscribed Mizuno Professional Model Max Flex Model MT 580 right-handed thrower's fielder's glove. With 536 lifetime home runs, Mantle has hit more homers than any switch-hitter in history. The Hall of Fame center fielder was a 3-time American league MVP, a Triple Crown winner (1956), a 20-time All-Star, and a member of seven Yankee World Championship teams. In 1961, when Mantle and Roger Maris were chasing Babe Ruth's single season record of 60 home runs, untold millions followed the fascinating chase. The Mizuno glove measures approximately 12.5" from the tip of the index finger to the heel of the glove. The glove is in good condition and shows some use. The areas around the heel of the glove and around where the wrist would be inserted into the glove show wear, with places where the patina over the leather has worn away. The essential value of the glove is the Mantle signature and inscription. Mantle signed the glove on the back of the ring finger slot. In the beautiful penmanship that Mickey practiced for hours on end as he sat in a coal mining office when he was a youth in Oklahoma, Mantle has used a marker to sign his name in black ink and to inscribe "NO. 7" below his signature. The glove comes with a PSA/LOA.
