Absolutely incredible original negative showing Mickey as he “works out for the first time.” That makes this the first known image of Mickey Mantle in a New York Yankee uniform. He is shown here trying to bunt along with teammates Whitey Ford, Billy Martin, Hank Bauer, Joe Collins, Gene Woodling and Harry Byrd look on. It is interesting the players that this green rookie is joined by. One, because they are the weight of the great Yankee organization (including the Chairman of the Board) and two, they would become some of his best friends in life. Dated March 2, 1951 in St. Petersburg, Florida. 4x5” in original envelope.
