Mike Reid Game Used Jersey Circa Early 1970s
Vintage Bengals jersey from the early '70s covered the back of defensive tackle Mike Reid, the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1970, who after knee surgery in '75 retired to pursue a music career -- and has since become a boffo country-western songwriter, with 11 #1 hits by the likes of Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Ronnie Milsap, Bette Midler, Tim McGraw and Wynonna Judd. Football was always as temporary stop for the music prodigy, and the big tear in the collar of the shirt is somehow symbolic of Reid ripping off the jersey to find his real passion in life (is there a song in there somewhere?) Black mesh jersey has screened-on "74" on front and back in white and "Reid" in white tackle twill across back. White-orange piping on sleeves. Sand-Knit and Size-50 tagging on front tail. Other than the tear, jersey is unmarked save for general wear and some soiling on the letters of the name. Super collectible for both Bengal collectors and latter-day C&W fans.
