On November 22, 1986 at the Las Vegas Hilton "Iron" Mike Tyson challenged Trevor Berbick for the World Boxing Council heavyweight championship. This was Tyson's first challenge for a world title and was the culmination of the two and a half years of work he had put in preparing himself for this day. Tyson had been a busy professional, fighting 27 times since turning pro and winning all of those fights, with 25 by knockout. He was the most feared heavyweight in the world and one of the most feared in boxing history. Tyson was not only a powerful puncher with both hands, but also a fighter well-schooled in the art of boxing with terrific defensive skills. Berbick entered the ring that night having won the title five months earlier from Pinklon Thomas. In an up and down career Berbick had posted wins over an aging Muhammad Ali, Greg Page and John Tate while losing in a title challenge to Larry Holmes. This was Tyson's night. After feeling his way through the first round, Tyson unleashed a furious attack on Berbick in the second. Berbick got up from the first knockdown, but when he tried to rise from the second he fell to the canvas twice more. Mike Tyson was the new heavyweight champion. Offered here are the fight worn trunks used by Mike Tyson in this fight with Berbick. The trunks are classic Tyson. The large trunks are black satin with black trim. On the two front lower legs there are USA and GO AMERICA patches. The trunks are labeled inside the waist at the waistband, "Tyson-Berbick 11/22/86." Perfectly intact with some slight color fade from natural aging. As important an offering of this great champion as has come to public sale. Sold with a letter of authenticity from Tyson's early assistant manager Steve Lott who took possession immediately following the fight and with a video of the fight showing Tyson wearing the trunks during the bout.
