"Mucho Macho Man" Awesome Again Stakes Cloth

"Mucho Macho Man" Awesome Again Stakes Cloth

This saddle cloth was worn by the immensely popular Mucho Macho Man in his victorious run in the Grade 1 2013 Awesome Again Stakes, which represented the first Grade 1 win in his significant career. This race set him up perfectly for his next race - his defining Championship victory in the 2013 Breeders' Cup Classic, which was voted the 2013 NTRA Moment of the Year. His accomplishments are Hall of Fame worthy: $5.6 million in career earnings, two Eclipse Award nominations, recipient of the Secretariat Vox Populi Award, and the 2013 Florida-bred Horse of the Year. The human interest stories surrounding this horse are also noteworthy. He survived several near-death bouts in 2008, and so did his trainer, the 40 year-old Kathy Ritvo, who that same year had a heart transplant. The story of horse and trainer was the story of the 2011 Kentucky Derby. Mucho Macho Man, named for the Village People song, "Macho Man," finished 3rd in the Derby.
