Original Artwork for 1954 Topps World on Wheels #97 Packard Patrician
In 1953, Topps came out with a series of cards called "Wheels." They are now referred to as the "World on Wheels" cards. The cards were first issued in 1953 and continued into '54. Presented is the original artwork for card #97, a Packard Patrician. The "Wheels" 160 card First Series had vintage and modern cars, as well as other vehicles, such as fire trucks and military vehicles. A second Series was issued in 1954-55 and added twenty more vehicles. The cards measure 2.75x3.75". The front has the name of the car in large letters and the model and year of the car in smaller letters and numerals. The type of vehicle, i.e., Four Door Sedan is printed on the bottom of the front. The back has the card number, various statistics, such as horsepower, length, width, and cylinders. The card back also has a quiz question and small cartoon about transportation. The offered original artwork for Card #97 is on a card that measures approx. 3x5". The original artwork has the image of the car with a white background. The card has various uneven spots, a few tiny spots of what seems to be paint, and a few minuscule pencil marks. The back of the card has a cloth surface that is partly removed in places. Also on the back is a handwritten, in pencil, marking by an unknown hand that appears to read, "B17514." Included with the original artwork are two Number 97 cards. Each of the included number 97 cards is in good condition. Overall, the original artwork and the two included Number 97 cards make this offering an unusual opportunity to obtain artwork and cards that appeal to both card collectors and those with an interest in vintage vehicles.
