Original Rags to Riches 2007 Kentucky Oaks Worn Winning Shoe Set
Rags to Riches is renowned for being the first filly in over a century to win the 2007 Belmont Stakes (and last to date). After stumbling out of the starting gate, her thrilling nose victory over two-time Horse of the Year Curlin remains one of the most exciting races in the history of the Triple Crown. This twin set of aluminum racing plates were worn by the distaff superstar five weeks earlier in her winning effort in the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks - the coveted 3-year-old filly counterpart to the famed Run for Roses at Churchill Downs. The shoes were secured by Rags to Riches groom Joe Estrada immediately after they were removed by barn farrier Ray Amato and are accompanied by a certificate of authenticity denoting the same. The shoes are mounted on a solid 9" x 12" walnut plaque with corresponding engraved brass haltertag nameplate.Rags to Riches was the favorite for the 2007 Kentucky Oaks and exceeded expectations with an impressive 4 ½-length win over a field that included 2006 U.S. Champion 2-Year-Old Filly and Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Dreaming of Anna. Rags to Riches received several honors at the end of her 3-year-old season, including Champion 3-Year-Old Filly, and even was a Teen Choice Award nominee for Female Athlete. After suffering a hairline fracture, she retired in 2008 with a record of five victories and one second-place finish in seven career starts with total earnings of more than $1.3 million.
