Original Velma Dawson NBC Contract To Make Howdy Doody

Original Velma Dawson NBC Contract To Make Howdy Doody

Considered “The Mother Of Howdy Doody” by all, the little wooden boy that we know and love today was constructed by Velma Dawson in June of 1948. Originally from Mrs. Dawson’s personal collection, this is her final and binding onionskin copy of the contract between herself and NBC. It is signed in ink by S. N. Stroh of NBC and Velma Dawson and dated “6/8/48.” Because of this 2-page contract, “The Velma Dawson Howdy” was rushed to premiere on the air at the end of that month. Accompanying is an NBC typed letter dated July 1, 1948 and signed by Richard H. Graham, Pacific Coast Counsel for NBC, “He (Howdy) is indeed telegenic.” The Original Los Angeles postmarked NBC envelope is also here.
