Phantom of the Opera 1925 Film Program

Phantom of the Opera 1925 Film Program

Like the silent film wonder it touts, a 1925 folded program for "The Phantom of the Opera" has worn well. Green- and red-hued photos radiate detail, from the ornate touches on the Paris Opera House set to the faces of actors such as Lon Chaney. This is the beginnings of Universal Horror which reigned in Hollywood for 50 years. Produced by the studio's founder and father, Carl Laemmle himself. Program is 4"x8" folded and 8"x 16" unfolded into four quadrants picturing many scenes from this horror classic. Has a 1 1/4" tear on the back page otherwise EX-MT. Big-budget films of the era were treated as extravaganzas, so red print of the Aldine Theatre in Philadelphia on the back lists only two showings: matinees at 2:20 p.m. and 8:20 p.m. with reserved seating. Silence was indeed golden.
