Phil Esposito Boston Bruins Game Used Stick

Phil Esposito Boston Bruins Game Used Stick

Classic vintage hockey stick game used by Hall of Famer Phil Esposito at some point during his early playing days with the Boston Bruins, which spanned from 1967-68 to 1975-76. The rugged, high-scoring center's name is stamped on the shaft of this all-wood Victoriaville stick, which is uncracked and has original tape on both blade and butt end. "P. Esposito" is stamped on the shaft and he has added an outstanding 8/10 autograph in marker at the heel of the blade. While we are unable to conclusively date this specific stick, there is one telling sign. Into the early 1960s, most wooden stick blades were straight before players experimented with fire-treating them to create a curve. As there was no limit to the curve one could create, which helped shooters more easily lift shots (thus jeopardizing the lives of then-maskless goalies), many of the early curves were excessive, causing the NHL to limit them starting in 1967, though the rule was not strictly enforced at first. This stick has that "banana blade" look and would very likely not pass legal muster by today's NHL standards. Great early piece from the Hall of Famer who won no less than five Art Ross Trophies as the NHL's leading scorer in his 18-year career.
