With the extraordinary popularity of the official Kentucky Derby julep glasses, it was natural that demand would extend to the other Triple Crown races. In 1973, Pimlico began annually producing an official Preakness glass. The collectibility of this series started with a Big Red bang, when the inaugural glass coincided with the legendary Secretariat capturing the first Triple Crown in a quarter century.
