Quartet of 1970 Dust Commander Kentucky Derby 14k Gold Charms (Family Sourced)

Quartet of 1970 Dust Commander Kentucky Derby 14k Gold Charms (Family Sourced)

With eight wins from 42 starts and relatively modest earnings of $215,012, Dust Commander didn't go down as one of the all-time greats, but he did, however, capture America's preeminent horse race, the Kentucky Derby, in 1970. Dust Commander's victory, mostly as an afterthought, was immortalized in Hunter S. Thompson's gonzo essay, "The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved." This unique offering consists of four 14k gold charms made by Dust Commander's owner Robert E. Lehman for his Derby triumph. Each charm measures one inch and depicts a winning mutuel ticket from the race. The back of the charm is engraved with "Dust Commander, 1970, Kentucky Derby, Winner, Robert E. Lehman" and is stamped "14k". The charms are family sourced and come in individual bags.

Addendum: These four charms weigh a total of 20.8g
