Rare 1927 Yankee Roy Chesterfield Signed Baseball

Official Western International League ball signed in black fountain pen by seventeen members of the circa 1940 Yakima Pippins, a member of the Western International League. Although this is what most collectors would consider an obscure minor league team-signed ball, it is notable for the inclusion of one signature: Roy Chesterfield. Chesterfield, a pitcher, was in training camp with the 1927 New York Yankees and spent some time with the club at the start of the season. Unfortunately for him, he never appeared in a regular-season game and is therefore not listed on the club’s official roster that year. Yet, he was in uniform with the club that season, making his autograph especially desirable for completist 1927 New York Yankees autograph collectors. Chesterfield’s signature (grading 5/10) appears on a side panel alongside what appears to be the signature of Charley Schanz, who later played with the Phillies. Other signatures on the ball are those of manager Goldie Holt (sweet spot), Sal Madrid, Charles Greer, Bill Reese, Horace Evans, Al Lien, and Howard Johnson. Signatures average 5/10. The ball displays a large area of browning (most likely from moisture) that touches upon the Chesterfield signature. In Good to Very Good condition overall.
