The Biographical Dictionary of America describes Kelly, as " one of the best forward pass receivers of all time". His brilliance on both offense and defense was instrumental in Yale's domination of The Big Three and earned him the honor of receiving the first ever Heisman Trophy. In 1999 he consigned his Heisman and other pieces from his personal collection to Lelands. The event marked only the second time a Heisman had been sold at auction (O.J. Simpson's being the first). This catalogue is from the December 1999 Auction. Even at age 84 Larry signed the cover "Larry Kelley" legibly in blue sharpie. Very few signed copies are known to exist. Mr. Kelley unfortunately passed away shortly after the auction.
