Rare Wilbert Robinson Signed Album Page

Rare Wilbert Robinson Signed Album Page

Wilbert Robinson made his mark as a catcher for the hard-nosed Baltimore Orioles of the 1890's. Later, "Uncle Robbie" as he affectionately came to be known, was named Manager of the Brooklyn franchise, where his jovial and easy going demeanor led the Robins to their first two World Series appearances in 1916 and 1920. Sadly, Robinson passed away in 1934 and was inducted in to Cooperstown posthumously in 1945. Like most turn of the century stars, who were immortalized after their death, Uncle Robbies' signature is highly coveted and remains on most Hall of Fame collectors' want lists. Presented is a rare album page signed boldy (9-10/10) by Robinson in black fountain pen ink. The original recipient of the coveted signature has neatly printed "Uncle Robby (sic) Manager Of Brooklyn Dodgers" above the autograph and "Deceased Aug. 8, 1934" below. All of this additional writing, could easily be matted away, however, should one desire to have the signature framed for display. There is a small newspaper image of Uncle Robbie affixed to the left of the autograph, and some light toning on a portion of the album page (far away from the signature), but the piece otherwise remains in EX-MT or better condition with the signature of Dodgers' star Babe Herman on the reverse side (this does not in any way affect the Robinson, as it is only visible when the page is turned over, but it is mentioned for the sake of accuarcy). Wilbert Robinson signatures are seldom offered for sale and this offering represents a fantastic opportunity for the advanced (or beginning) collector to pick up a superior example.
