Roger Maris Signed 61st Home Run Photo
Perhaps the best wire photo of the swing that broke Babe Ruth's "unbreakable" record is this 8 x 10 of Maris, face grimacing and muscular arms tautly gripping the bat, driving No. 61 against Tracy Stallard of the Boston Red Sox on October 1, 1961 at Yankee Stadium to become, as the caption reads, "the most prolific home run hitter in major league baseball history." The feat seems weightier now given the "little helpers" used by later sluggers, and the picture is definitely weightier with Maris's signature in brilliant blue sharpie, reading "To Jack, Best always to a great Yankee fan, Roger Maris." Signature and photo both NRMT.
