Roger Maris Signed Camel Cigarettes Advertisement
In 1961, Roger Maris amazed the world by hitting 61 homeruns, thereby surpassing a record that many thought would never be broken. Few realize, however, the toll that reaching this remarkable feat took on Maris's well being. As the number of homers that Maris hit increased, so too did the stress he was forced to endure. Roger began to lose his hair, was quick to snap at reporters, and became a voracious habitual smoker. It is somewhat fitting, therefore, that Roger's image was, at times, used to promote cigarette and tobacco products. Presented is one such piece, featuring a smiling Maris as he leisurely puffs away on a Camel cigarette. Maris has signed the advertisement , "Best Wishes Roger Maris" in Mint black ink. The 8.5 x 11" magazine ad. is in Very Good (VG) condition, and is handsomely double matted and framed to an overall size of 14.5" x 16.5". LOA.
