Rogers Hornsby Autograph Collection (12)
Rogers Hornsby was one of the greatest hitters in baseball history, and this material Includes an autographed album page, nice circa-1962 Mets 3x5 card, 1943 government postcard, scarce 1938 full-size handwritten letter on Hotel Rennert in Baltimore stationery on which he states his desire for a better job than "coach." In addition, there is an inside cover to Baseball Magazine signed by Hornsby and George Sisler, a magazine photo of the same image as the 1920s exhibit card, a signed contract with Bill Veeck, and four Hornsby cuts of various qualities. There's also a 1933 TLS on full-size St. Louis Browns stationery inviting George Perkins to work out with the club, as well as two Hornsby secretarial letters. Most of these documents are signed in ink. A two-time National League MVP, Hornsby's .358 lifetime batting average still ranks second all-time, behind only Ty Cobb.
