Rolling Stones Platinum Album for "Tattoo You"
Propelled by the smash single "Start Me Up," the Rolling Stones notched their 15th platinum album in the US with "Tattoo You" in 1981. This framed, 17" x 21" display was presented to Los Angeles rock station KLOS for its radio support that autumn "to commemorate the sale of more than 1,000,000 copies." The record actually would go on to quadruple-platinum status, becoming the British rockers' third-most successful album financially behind "Hot Rocks (1964-1971)" and "Some Girls." Side One is featured, as well as a platinum cassette tape, mini-album cover and RIAA certification emblem."Tattoo You" was comprised of numerous studio outtakes recorded during the 1970s and became the last of the group's nine number-one albums on the Billboard charts.
