Ron Turcotte Secretariat Race Worn Silks (1973)

Ron Turcotte Secretariat 1973 race-worn Silks. Blue and white checkered racing silk and pants worn by Ron Turcotte, one of the greatest jockeys in racing history, with over 3,000 lifetime victories. Riding Secretariat, arguably the greatest thoroughbread of all time, Turcotte added the prestigious Triple Crown to his many achievements. Secretariat established new track records at both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, and broke the mile and one half world record at the Belmont Stakes, leaving the field behind in a historic 31-length victory. One of the great sports photos of all time, shows Turcotte, expecting the challange of Sham, undoubtedly stunned to hear only his own horse, looking back in seeming amazement. This set of silks and pants was worn by Turcotte while racing Secretariat in 1973. The silks are embroidered “Ron Turcotte” in white in the collar. Although it cannot be determined which race(s) he wore these silks in, it has been established with certainty that they were worn in 1973 aboard Secretariat. Pants are matching, and are identified by “Turcotte” embroidered in blue on the outside back waistband. A “Custom Jockey’s Apparel” tag appears on the inside waistband. The letter “M” representing “Meadow Stable” is written in red marker on the inside band. Both silk and pants are in splendid condition, showing very nice wear and use. These items were obtained from theSport of Kings Society. A Letter of Authenticity from American Heritage Autographs & Collectibles is included. A color photograph of Turcotte aboard Secretariat, signed prominently in red ink, completes this historic group, the like of which will surely never be seen again.
