Sam Thompson Philadelphia Phillies Hall of Fame Plaque
Fantastic solid brass Hall of Fame plaque once hung in Veteran’s Stadium in Philadelphia. Thompson was an outfielder for the Phillies from 1889 to 1898. A career .331 hitter, he led the National League in hits, double and homers twice each, and in 1895 led in RBIs (165). The year before, he combined with his two outfield teammates as the only .400-hitting outfield in MLB history. His 128 home runs is best for all 19th Century baseball players. The image of Thompson and lettering is raised with a black painted background. The image (bust) of Thompson is approximately 7” high. The plaque measures 11” wide x 15 ?” high x ?” thick and weighs approximately 14 lbs. There are four holes drilled in the corners of the plaque for mounting bolts, and manufacturers black ink stampings (names of tooler, buffer, etc.) and a shipping sticker on the back of the plaque. The plaque is excellent and cake from the auction of Veteran’s Stadium last year.
