Saratoga Admission Ribbon Featuring the Favorite for the Next Year's First Ever Kentucky Derby

Saratoga Admission Ribbon Featuring the Favorite for the Next Year's First Ever Kentucky Derby

There was a regular six day 2nd meeting in 1874 at the famous Saratoga racecourse. The meet was very successful as evidenced by 3 additional race days being added. On the first day of the meet, August 8, 1874, Chesapeake, favorite for the 1875 inaugural Kentucky Derby, won the Kentucky Stakes under Bobby Swim. Calvin, out of the money, won the 1875 Belmont Stakes. Lizzie Lucas won the Summer Handicap that day with Survivor 4th, winner of the previous year's initial Preakness. Second place went to Culpepper, winner of the 2nd Preakness earlier in 1874. lncluded are the results of the races, and note the low weights assigned. The ribbon is in superb condition, and extremely rare, probably the only one existing. A unique opportunity to own an important part of history recording the first two winners of the Preakness Stakes, a future Belmont Stakes winner, and the favorite for the first Kentucky Derby, all on the same card.
