Scarce 1945 & 1949 St. Louis Cardinals World Series Phantom Press Pins
Just to be on the safe side, the St. Louis Cardinals twice produced World Series press pins in the event that they would make the World Series, only to fall agonizingly short of their goal. Here are the phantom pins from 1945 (threaded post with St. Louis Button Company stamp) and 1949 (threaded post with no maker's mark). Both are NRMT. The 1945 Redbirds lost the pennant by three games to the rival Cubs and came up a game short of Brooklyn in 1949.
