Seabiscuit Movie Tack Box

Seabiscuit Movie Tack Box

This wall mounted tack box featuring the red and white markings of the famed C. S. Howard Stable was an original prop from the 2003 Universal Pictures film Seabiscuit starring Jeff Bridges as Charles Howard. The tack box was used during the filming of the movie that was based upon Laura Hillenbrand's best-selling book. A massive success, the film brought in more than $148 million in ticket sales and garnered seven Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. The significance of the tack box as an artifact of the film is evident by it being individually catalogued and registered by the noted Hollywood Memorabilia company Premiere Props in association with Universal Pictures. A certificate of authenticity denoting the same signed by representatives of both parties accompanies the box. The tack box measures approximately 17x30x11" and while the initial production origins of the piece is unclear, the aluminum trimmed wooden box features all the associated dents and scrapes that would be consistent in a vintage tack box from the corresponding era. Seabiscuit was a national hero and inspiration during the Great Depression -- a West Coast underdog who was the highest earning horse at the time despite his humble beginnings. Hillenbrand’s book chronicled his all but forgotten story before Hollywood came calling.
