"Shindig!" Beatles Shea Stadium Flyer with the Rolling Stones

"Shindig!" Beatles Shea Stadium Flyer with the Rolling Stones

Extremely rare flyer billing upcoming acts to appear in New York that summer -- capped by the Beatles' now legendary Shea Stadium concert on August 15th and also distinguished by a Rolling Stones' May 29th gig at the Academy of Music. The latter venue was also played by the Dave Clark 5, Kinks, Moody Blues & a touring troupe from the "Shindig!" TV show. Another was a Phil Ochs/Chuck Berry gig at Carnegie Hall. The oddity here is that the type size for the Beatles is no larger than the others, making it seem as if the Fab Four actually were part of a the Shindig show! In reality, of course, the Beatles were on a whole other level. The Shea appearance would set records when more than 55,000 fans paid their way in, and the band came away with a $160,000 share of the $304,000 gross receipts. By comparison, the others --including the Stones -- had to make do with mere pocket change. The 5.5 x 8.5" yellow flyer is VG-EX with some fold marks and idle pen notations. Quirky confluence of history, and it's sure nice seeing the "Shindig Girl Dancers" get their due.
