"Spend A Buck" 1985 Cherry Hill Mile Trophy

"Spend A Buck" 1985 Cherry Hill Mile Trophy

Robert Brennan upended the thoroughbred world in 1985, offering a $2 million bonus to any horse who could win the Kentucky Derby and sweep the "Jersey Crown." Spend A Buck won the Derby, and Brennan's offer prompted his team to skip the Preakness and Belmont to pursue the bonus. This trophy is from the first of the three races in the "Jersey Crown." Consisting of two pieces, the trophy and a top, it measures 5x12.5" and is crystal with no markings. It is accompanied by a gold plaque engraved, "The Cherry Hill Mile, $200,000 Added, April 6th 1985, Won by Hunter Farm's Spend a Buck, Trainer C. Gambolati." This elegant specimen was obtained directly from Cam Gambolati and comes with signed handwritten letter from him.
