"Spend A Buck" Monmouth Park Hall of Champions Trophy

"Spend A Buck" Monmouth Park Hall of Champions Trophy

Presented is a trophy awarded by Monmouth Park, a New Jersey racetrack, to the owners of Spend a Buck, the winner of both the 1985 Kentucky Derby and a trio of 1985 New Jersey races, all held at the Garden State racetrack, in Cherry Hill: 1) The Cherry Hill Mile Stakes, on April 6; 2) The Garden State Stakes, on April 20; and 3) The Jersey Derby, on May 27. Although Spend a Buck won the '85 Kentucky Derby, the owners of the horse decided to forgo a chance at the Triple Crown in order to compete for a two-million-dollar bonus awarded to the Kentucky Derby winner should that horse also win the above-mentioned three races. The trophy and base together are a foot tall. The base is 3" high, and its top measures 4x4". The base has a 1.5x3" placard which reads, "Monmouth Park/Hall Of Champions/Spend a Buck." The visually appealing, hand-painted, solid metal figure of the jockey is portrayed in the blue and white colors of the owner of Spend a Buck, Hunter Farm (Dennis Diaz), and the front of the jockey's jersey has the letters HF. The trophy exhibits nice, substantial weight at 4 lbs., 11.25 ounces. The jockey figure has some small scratching on the left pants front, and the placard exhibits some minor tarnishing and some very small scratches. Overall, the trophy is in excellent condition.
