In 1957, tennis great Althea Gibson broke racial barriers to become the first negro ever to win Wimbledon. She then accomplished the same feat at the US Championship at Forest Hills. These (14) wire photos capture those landmark victories, including Gibson receiving her National Tennis Championship trophy from then VP Richard Nixon.
