The Definitive Walter Johnson Photograph by Charles Conlon
Despite his dominance on the mound, the most unforgettable image of Walter Johnson is a Charles M. Conlon photo of him warming up in front of the grandstand. Yeah, this one. Note the inward turned left foot--the man had to generate his torque somehow. The renowned photographer likely took the picture in the latter stage of Johnson's 1907-27 career, when the Senators ace was well on his way to 417 victories and 3,508 strikeouts. On the verso is Conlon's stamp reads "Charles M. Conlon Photographer for Spaulding's Guide and Baseball Magazine". Photo is 6.5x8.5" and NRMT
