The First Indianapolis 500 Panoramic Photograph (1911)

The First Indianapolis 500 Panoramic Photograph (1911)

Expansive (1ft. x 5ft.) framed panorama from the very first Indy 500. Text at the bottom center of the photo reads “North Grandstands, Indianapolis Motor Speedway During 500 Mile Race, May 30, 1911.” Below that, photographer’s acknowledgement reads as “‘Cirkut (sic) Photo’ by C.F. Bretzman, Ind’p’l’s.” Lovely details display from the packed skimmer-and-bowler-topped grandstands, the Model T spectacle on the infield, as well as the speedway itself with the race cars hurtling down the track in the distance. One vertical and horizontal crack traverse the photo, and though they travel top to bottom, end to end, and intersect in the middle, the panoramic image retains its narrative flow and vintage beauty. The importance of this photo can not be stressed enough. Comes with original frame.
