The Stork Club Autograph Book with Babe Ruth & Joe DiMaggio Together - A Who's Who of 1940s-50s Manhattan Elite (PSA)
One of the finest autograph books we have ever seen or handled. Al 116 signatures were all obtained by Andre Beaumont, head chef of the New York City watering hole circa 1947-52. The ultimate representation of post-war Manhattan. This is filled with a myriad of famous names from all walks of life and is eminently discriminating as there is no one but the most rich and famous. Best of all is a singular page with a perfect Babe Ruth signature and below a vintage Joe DiMaggio with the added inscription, "It's an honor under Ruth." (Wow!) Quite indicative of the the rest of the book, signatures are strategically and thematically placed: Jack Dempsey, Gene Tunney and Max Baer together; Eleanor Roosevelt across from Margaret Truman. Many have added flourishes and drawings such as cartoonist Soglow (Little King), Ham Fisher (Joe Palooka), and others. There are, of course, several sports stars including: Hank Greenberg "Detroit Tigers," Leo Durocher (known for his taste for the nightlife), Clem McCarthy with horse racing drawing, and more. Artists include: James Montgomery Flagg, A. Willard Brown with Glamour girl drawing and Albert Dorne with self-portrait. Film and entertainment stars are amazing: Elizabeth Taylor (joined by her parents in 1947), Charlie Chaplin, Frank Sinatra, Mary Pickford.... NOTE: Because of the level of publicity for celebrities at the club, photographs exist of most of them there, for example, teenage Liz Taylor with her parents. You can pinpoint many of the days that each were there as they were events unto themselves. Comes with PSA LOA.
