Unquestionably the finest close-up shot ever taken of one of the best hitters who ever lived, this Paul Thompson agency photo shined rare flashbulb light on a guy who never really achieved the respect he deserved until Ichiro began to challenge his seasonal hit record of 246 (which he broke with the luxury of over 100 more at-bats than Sisler had in 1922 -- when he also hit .420). The reason for Sisler's unsung status had to do with the "St. Louis" on his chest, as he did his hitting for God-awful Browns teams. Thompson's valuable copyright stamp is on the back.
