Three Superb Hal Chase Photos From Paul Thompson
Three amazing images of one of the most shamleful characters in the history of the game. Chase, who was implicated in the Black Sox Scandal and booted from the game for serial gambling and game-fixing, is shown in these different views from the great photographer Paul Thompson: 1) As a New York Highlander with sun collar and splendid NY cap with smile of mischievousness. Close-up facial is 5x7” NRMT. 2) Very early on the field shot throwing the ball at first at Hilltop Park. Contrast is perfect. 4x5x6.5” and EX-MT. 2) Killer shot of him again making a throw but this time a full body shot as a New York Giant. Verso makes mention of him being back in the game with the Giants (1919), but uni appears to be NY Americans. A silver gelatin stunner. Minor edge wear o/w NRMT. All photos are stamped by both “The Ring” and Paul Thompson's personal ID. Sometimes the "baddest" players make the best subjects.
