Thurman Munson Signed Photograph (JSA)
Presented is an 8x10" signed black and white photo collage of New York Yankees catcher Thurmon Munson. He was the Captain of the New York Yankees when on August 2, 1979, he was at the Akron-Canton Airport near his home in Akron, Ohio and he was practicing landings while piloting the aircraft he owned, and a crash took his life. Munson played his entire 11-year Major League career with the Yankees. He was a leader on the Yankees World Championship teams of 1077-78, a 7-time All-Star, and a .292 lifetime hitter with 113 homers and 701 RBIs. He was the American League Rookie of the Year in 1970 and the AL MVP in 1967, the only Yankee to ever win both the AL Rookie of the Year and the AL MVP. He was a superior defensive catcher, winning three Gold Gloves. Munson took his defensive work very seriously. "I like hitting fourth and I like the good batting average," he said. "But what I do every day behind the plate is a lot more important. because it touches so many more people and so many more aspects of the game." The photo collage has two Munson photos, a 6.5" one of his holding a bat and a 2.5x3.5" head shot. Munson has signed the collage in the lower left corner in black ink from a fiber-tip marker. His signature is strong and 8/10 with a very slight smudge. The Yankees promotional photo has some creases, and there was tape around the edges, but it has been removed. The signed collage comes with a full JSA Letter of Authenticity.
