Tony Conigliaro Signed Boston Red Sox Photograph Display (PSA)

Tony Conigliaro Signed Boston Red Sox Photograph Display (PSA)

Presented is an autographed Tony Conigliaro photograph display. Conigliaro had a marvelous beginning to his Boston Red Sox career, hitting .290 with 24 homers in his first season, 1964, when he was only 19 years old. By age 22, Conigliaro had hit 100 home runs, the youngest American League player to have done so. Conigliaro's brilliant career was derailed when on Aug. 18, 1967, at Fenway Park, an errant high fastball by Jack Hamilton, the pitcher for the California Angels, hit Conigliaro in the face, causing serious injuries, including a severely damaged left retina. Tony C. could not play again until 1969, when he was the American League Comeback Player of the Year, with 20 homers and 82 RBI. He had an even better year in 1970 when he hit 36 homers and 116 RBIs. After that season, Conigliaro was traded to the California Angels, and his eyesight deteriorated. He made comeback attempts, but he retired from baseball at age 30. He passed away in 1990, when he was only 45 years old. The striking photo (7.25" x 8.75") depicts Tony C. in a batting stance outlined against a sky-blue background. At the bottom of the display are two Boston Red Sox logos and a 1.75" x 5.75" plaque which reads, "Tony Conigliaro #25/ Boston Red Sox Right Fielder/ 1965 AL Home Run Leader/ 1967 All Star/ 1995 Red Sox Hall of Fame". Conigliaro has signed the photo in blue ink from a ballpoint pen, and his signature is large and neatly written. The photo and plaque have been attractively matted and framed at 16.5" x 16.5". The display comes with a PSA/LOA.
