Tony Gwinn 3,000th Hit Full Ticket - Aug 6, 1999 (PSA GEM MT 10)

Presented is a full ticket to the August 6, 1999, game at Montreal's Olympic Stadium in which San Diego Padres Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn got his 3,000th hit. Gwynn was a left-handed hitting right-fielder who played his entire 20-year Major League career with the San Diego Padres, sometimes even accepting less money from the small market Padres than he could have received from other teams in order to stay with San Diego. Gwynn was an excellent hitter who led the National League in batting a record tying eight times. The 15-time All-Star had a .338 lifetime batting average. Gwynn was a 7-time Silver Slugger, and a 5-time Gold Glove winner. Early in his career, Gwynn was mostly an opposite field hitter who exhibited limited power. After a meeting with Ted Williams in 1992, Gwynn took advice from Williams and started to pull the ball more and hit for more power. The $5.00 ticket, for Section 412, Row S, Seat 3, measures 2x5.5". It is written mostly in French. The ticket reads, "Stade OLYMPIQUE (Olympic Stadium) EXPOS vs PADRES/VENDREDI 6 AOUT 1999 19H05 (Friday August 6, 1999/7:05 p.m.). In the game, Gwynn singled to right field in his first at bat off the Expos Dan Smith. The first base umpire, Kerwin Danley, a baseball teammate of Gwynn at San Diego State, was the second person to congratulate Gwynn. Gwynn then added three more hits in the game. With his hit, Gwynn became the 30th member of the MLB 3,000 Hit Club. Gwynn, who passed away in 2014, wound up with 3,141 hits. The ticket has been encapsulated and PSA graded GEM MT 10.
