Two 1940s Autograph Books with 350+ Baseball Autographs Including Mel Ott(3) and Jimmie Foxx
These two vintage autograph books were brought to us by a gentleman from Massachusetts who liked to come to New York and collect baseball autographs at National League ballparks. The lot contains more than 350 total autographs, including three (3) from the legendary Mel Ott (all in pen) and one from Jimmie Foxx (in pencil). Some other notables to sign these books are Ted Williams, Honus Wagner, Lloyd Waner, Ernie Lombardi and Casey Stengel (all in pencil), Pee Wee Reese (in red ink) and Johnny Mizell and umpire Al Barlick (in pen). Many of the autographs are those of second-tier players and semi-stars. Approximately half of the signatures are written in pencil; a number of the names appear more than once. The back cover of one of the books is missing; otherwise they are in well-loved condition with the pages all intact and provide a wonderful glimpse down baseball’s memory lane.
