Ty Cobb Handwritten Letter & Signed Check

Ty Cobb Handwritten Letter & Signed Check

Ty Cobb's remarkable baseball career lasted from 1905 through 1928. Following the 1928 season, The Georgia Peach called it quits and moved to California where he would pursue the activities he enjoyed throughout many off seasons during his playing days. Offered is a fantastic pair of items, which originate from Cobb's post baseball days, and present us with a glimpse into the personal life of one of the game's most interesting characters. Included in this lot is a beautiful handwritten letter penned entirely in Cobb's hand, as well as a personal bank check filled out and signed by Cobb in his trademark green ink. The letter, which is a full two pages in length, is accomplished on Cobb's personal stationary in Mint black fountain pen ink. Cobb writes to a friend on "Oct -28 - 38", regarding fishing, hunting pheasant, and playing golf. The interesting content reads in part, "I want to thank you for the time and trouble you went to during the visit there and making it possible to shoot pheasant. Ship me 20 lbs of trout about the 8th of Nov. Want them smaller than size you sent last or better still send half large and half the real trout." Cobb has signed the letter boldly on the second page with his first and last name ("Ty Cobb"). The bank check is dated "Nov. 14, 1951", and is made payable to a friend in the amount of "Fifteen and 00/100 Dollars". The letter is in overall Near Mint to Mint (NM-Mint) Conditiion, with the uaual fold lines, while the check rates Near Mint (NM) with bank cancellation marks visible on both sides.
