Ty Cobb Signed American League Batting Leaders Chart
The fact that Ty Cobb takes up more than a quarter of this list of year-by-year American League batting champs, from 1900 to 1941, is a testament to his enormity and dominance beyond that of the Dead Ball Era. Notice at list’s end the emergence of players inaugurating a newer and more modern era, such as DiMaggio and Williams. Cobb signs along his string of batting titles - twelve in all and only interrupted once (by Cleveland’s Tris Speaker in 1916) - in fountain pen, rating an 8/10. The page itself is NRMT, and comes from the 1942 Famous Slugger's yearbook; signature was acquired in the 1940's and has been in one collection ever since.
