Ty Cobb Signed Handwritten Letter (PSA)
<p>Displayed is the closing portion of a signed handwritten letter, affixed on an album page, from Inaugural Hall of Famer Ty Cobb that was apparently written to a fan who requested autographs. The great Tyrus Cobb once held the MLB all-time stolen base record with 897 and the MLB all-time hit record with 4,189. At .366, Cobb's lifetime batting average is the highest in Major League history. The letter is written in Ty Cobb's familiar green ink from a fountain pen. The fan's name is unknown since only the closing page of the letter is included. Cobb writes, "... as I once knew a Mike Anderson and I think you have requested more than two times, though I could be wrong in this. Now in your last letter you said one thing very foreign to what I would say, you stated that I said I was too tired to sign...I strongly believe in not more than two to one person in my signing, I hope thats [sic] clear to you. Sincerely T.R.C." The letter measures approx. 7.1x10.5". There is remaining tape in some areas where the letter was affixed to the album page, but otherwise the letter, apart from some expected fading, is in excellent condition. Cobb letter comes with a PSA/DNA certification of AUTHENTIC AUTO One of the revealing facets of Cobb's letter is that a reader can almost palpably sense his irritation at the fan for requesting more than two autographs. The signature, and the angry sentiments, are pure of Cobb's gruff side.</p><p>On the other side of the album page is an affixed signed letter from Hall of Fame outfielder Enos "Country" Slaughter that was apparently written to a fan, named "Mike," who evidently had requested a 1952 picture of Slaughter. The letter most likely was written circa 1952, and it is handwritten in blue ink from a fountain pen on Chicago's Hotel Knickerbocker stationery. Slaughter writes, "Dear Mike, I'm very sorry I don't have any of my 1952 photos yet, but as soon as I receive them [,] I shall be very happy to send one to you! Your sincere friend, Enos "Country" Slaughter." Slaughter was a 19-year Major Leaguer, spending 13 of those seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a 10-time All-Star and a 4-time World Series winner. In 1952, he batted .300, with 101 RBI and made the NL All Star team and he hit .300 for his career. The letter is approx. 6x9.25", and the album page is 7.1x10.5". Both the Slaughter letter album page and his handwritten letter show fading and paper loss, and the letter exhibits a bubbling along its edges where it was affixed with tape or glue to the album page. </p>
