Vintage Baseball / Tobacco Collection (13)
Baseball and tobacco have always mixed very well, as demonstrated by this attractive and interesting collection, which includes: 1.) two wooden folding chairs, each with an enameled metal advertising sign on their backs. Both signs are 11 1/2" x 11 1/2", with white lettering on navy blue. The first reads "For Cigarettes, Virginia Tobacco is the Best. Piedmont - The Virginia Cigarette", and the second "Smoke Piedmont - The Cigarette of Quality". These chairs would be perfect beside a T206 baseball tobacco card collection. One of the signs is VG, and is missing enamel at two points, while the other is EX; 2.) a circa 1900 "Safe Hit Cigar" foil wrapper featuring an image of a period baseball game, matted and framed under glass to a dimension of 6 1/4" x 8", in VG condition; 3.) four "Colgan's Chips" 1 1/2" tins, just like those the baseball disks came in, average VG condition; 4.) a large "Mayo Cut Plug" tin measures 8" x 3 3/4" x 5" and relates to the Mayo series of baseball cards issued in the 19th century. The tin is in VG condition; 5.) an empty 6 3/4" x 4 1/2" pack of "4 Bagger" tobacco from 1926, in VG condition; 6.) a "Joe Tinker - Now 5 Cents" cigar box lid frame, 9" x 6", missing glass and in VG condition; 7.) two "Favorite" memo booklets, 5 1/2" x 3", with Nellie Fox on front and back covers, and other player photos and bios inside, with pages filled with notes and calculations, VG condition; 8.) an unopened pack of vintage-looking "Home Run" cigarettes from the 1960's, in NRMT condition. A wide-ranging and historic collection.
