Vintage Scrapbook Album featuring Hundreds of Non-Sport Tobacco Cards and 50 Boxing Cards
Large collection of 460 assorted sports and non-sports tobacco cards, dating from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, all of which are affixed to pages in a vintage scrapbook album. The vast majority of the cards are non-sport, but a total of fifty different boxing cards from the T218, T219, and T220 sets are included. The highlights of the boxing group are two Jack Johnson cards and sixteen cards from the scarce T220 set. Among the various non-sport issues included here (number of cards noted in parentheses) are 1910 T107 Helmar Seals of US & Coat of Arms (50); 1889 N39 Allen & Ginter 50 Fish From American Waters (21), 1909-1919 T29 Hassan Animal Series (41); 1927 F130 Gridley Butter Heroes of History (9); 1910 T118 Hassan The World's Greatest Explorers (18), 1910-1911 T59 Flags of Nations (46); 1909-1910 T112 Mogul Cigarettes Toast Series (14); and 1886 N16 Allen & Ginter Natives in Costume (15). As noted earlier, all the cards in this album are affixed to their respective pages by means of an adhesive. Aside from that, the cards range from Poor to Excellent in their overall appearance, averaging VG. The album pages, which are extremely brittle and feature many tears, have all detached from the spine and the leather covers are heavily worn. As noted in writing on the interior front cover, this album was started in 1911, and it also contains several newspaper clippings related to the sinking of the Titanic.
