"War Admiral" 1938 Rhode Island Handicap Race Worn Horseshoe

"War Admiral" 1938 Rhode Island Handicap Race Worn Horseshoe

The son of legendary champion Man o'War, War Admiral did his lineage proud with 21 victories in his 26 career races. After being named Horse-of-the-Year in 1937, Admiral continued his success into the 1938 season. This mounted horseshoe is from his victory at the Rhode Island Handicap in Narragansett on November 12, 1938, the final win of his historic career. Over 40,000 fans attended the race, with jockey Charlie Kurtsinger easing the thoroughbred to a 2.5 length victory. This great historical piece was mounted on a sterling silver plaque and stamped by J.E. Caldwell & Company on the back. The engraving reads "War Admiral Rhode Island Handicap Naragansett November 12, 1938," and has some tarnishing which can be cleaned if so desired, but the piece is in EX condition overall.
